A pool fence is ugly? So is a dead person in your pool! The fact is that pool fences are really not ugly at all in most cases. In fact, most of the mesh type pool fences are completely see through with the exception of the framework of the poles and the reenforced edging so they really do not look bad. They are actually quite pleasing to the eye.

There are many types of pool fences out there on the market today. Iron pool fence which is usually the most expensive can also have a few more options with the decoration part if that is what you are after. More importantly though, does that pool fence help to keep people from entering the pool area when they are not supposed to be there? Is the pool fence itself something that might be hazardous? Well some choices are better than others in my opinion, but there is one thing that is for sure; If you do not have a pool fence around your pool, the protection from an accidental drowning pretty much goes down to nothing.

Excuses and aesthetics are no reason for any person to be in danger. It is part of the mission for Precious Guardians to combat the reasons why people think that not having a pool fence is acceptable. Regardless of what a pool owner may think, if there is no pool fence around a pool, people are in danger. The kids are the ones that are in the most danger. Even if there are no children residing in the house that the pool is located at, there are still other people around. Relatives come in and out of town, nieces, nephews, grand children, and even friends or neighbors and their children are at risk if you do not have a pool fence.

If a tragic accident or permanent injury were to occur in your pool and it did not have a barrier around it, the pool owner can be held financially responsible. Not only will it cost you more in the long run because you did not have a pool fence, the guilt that one must go through on a daily basis knowing that it was preventable would be a heavy burden to have. So if you have a pool, get yourself a pool fence.

There was a missing pool barrier and a one year old girl lost her life. One would have to think that with a lapse in concentration while watching a child, a pool barrier adds an extra layer of protection in between a child and potential death.

ABC 15 San Tan Pool With No Barrier

A 1-year-old girl died Tuesday after falling into the backyard pool of a San Tan Valley home, authorities said.

The girl’s grandmother found her in a pool with no pool barrier at a home near Skyline Drive and Gary Road, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

She performed CPR until paramedics arrived, said Colin Williams, a spokesman for the Rural/Metro Fire Department.

“Our units were there within a couple of minutes,” said Williams, adding that it was unclear how long the child was in the water.

The girl was initially taken to Banner Ironwood Medical Center, where her pulse was detected and she began to breathe, Williams said.

She was then flown to Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa, where she died, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“There was a glimmer of hope there,” Williams said. “Everything was in place.”

Pool Barriers save lives and every pool should have a fence with no exception. All Cars have seat belts in every seat no matter if any one is riding in it or not. The fact is that the second leading cause of unnecessary death among children under the age of 12 is drowning. This statistic has been in this position for as long as we can remember and even with all of the advocates out there for swimming safety, lessons, and pool safety awareness these drowning are still happening. At some point you almost have to ask yourself why.

Pool Barrier! Near Drowning in El Mirage Was Preventable

EL MIRAGE, Ariz. -

An 18-month-old boy was airlifted to the hospital Thursday afternoon after he was found face down floating in a backyard pool.

It happened just after noon in the 12500 block of W. Larkspur Road in El Mirage.

It’s not clear how long he was in the water. The boy’s grandma says she took her eyes off him for about 5 minutes to attend to a 12-year-old sibling with autism.

She attempted lifesaving efforts and firefighters took over when they arrived. They were able to establish a pulse.

The toddler started breathing on his own, and by the time crews tried to intubate him, he had a gag reflex — which is a good sign. His color had also improved a little by the time he was transported.

“There was a pulse and he was spitting up some water, that is a good sign, there is some positive there, but it doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods,” said El Mirage Police Detective Kim Walden.

The toddler was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital and the latest on his condition is not known.

There was no barrier around the pool.

With no Pool Barrier Your Children’s Safety is at Stake

First of all Thank You to Fox 10 For this Story But You all Said it ….. There was no pool barrier. We watch our children continuously and we think that we have everything under control, but all that it takes to have a child in danger is one second. A tiny lapse in concentration is long enough for a child to get outside and get in to that back yard pool. The truth is that with a proper pool barrier, accidents like this will not happen nearly as much.

The Staff at Precious Guardians would like for everyone that reads this to please share the story, Help spread the word that these senseless thing are still happening. A pool and no fence? This should not be happening still. Every pool should have a fence. Lets change the stats of accidental death among children under the age of 12. It is #2 and has been for years. Not for lack of trying ,but in our opinion for lack of the appropriate laws and the enforcement of them.

Precious Guardians is OPEN and Means Business When it Comes To Safety For Families And Children.

No Excuses is what Precious Guardians will accept. What we will not accept is the fact that children, people, and pets are still being permanently injured or dying because they were not aware of a hazard, ignored it, or could not afford to protect themselves from it. Some tragedies happen because of these mentioned reasons and some of them as we all know we will still happen no matter how much we educate, advocate, or fix. Families are passionate about pets and often times when it comes to safety around the home for them, we tend to forget. If you have a pet in your home, pet safety should be of big importance to you. One of the most important reasons that you should be concerned is that if a pet gets into a hazardous situation in your home it could not only cause unnecessary death or harm to your pet but it can possibly endanger you and the rest of your family as well.

   You may not look at a power cord, a bath tub, or a back yard pool as a hazard for your pets but all too often bad things happen to pets when you least expect it. Home Hazard Prevention with Precious Guardians want you to know some things about your home that you may not be aware of. Your home may contain many potential hazards that you do not even know about or you may have overlooked.  From natural gas or propane hazards,  electrical hazards, appliance hazards, to window blind cords that can be hazardous; the potential exists for a problem to arise. For hazard prevention around the home it is important for you to know what they are and how to possibly spot them before an accident occurs.

• The common household hazards include:ladders & stools,clothing,cans & containers, desks, cabinets, shelves & racks, tables, non-glass doors, bathroom structures & fixtures, chairs & sofas, bedding, mattresses and pillows,  stairs, ramps, landings & floor accidents.

Most of the time, people call on firefighters after an accident has occurred.  All too often they were preventable accidents. Home Hazard Prevention is really about using Recognition-Primed Decision (RPDM) to teach you how to be safer in the privacy of your own home. RPDM uses 3 phases of processing and situation responses.  This is an extremely quick process that is part of the natural thinking process.

•  See/Recognize a problem (Situation Awareness).
•  Recognize clues from previous experiences.
• Find a solution that works and use it; if it doesn’t work, find another solution.

You already use RPDM on a daily basis, we can help you expand that mentality into a safety first mentality.  This process helps us quickly find a workable solution based on previously experienced problems and outcomes. Precious Guardians gives pool barriers as a way to help save lives. As Precious Guardians we do not want any one to ever lose a child because of a pool. Nobody deserves to have to deal with that kind of fate. That is why we do what we do. More people need to know that they can do simple things to prevent drownings such as require a responsible and capable adult around water with kids!  There should be no exception to this rule because there are no second chances.

It’s insane to see on the news when a family has a so-called bad day. We really never want to see such a thing and we are tempted to turn the channel. If it is even possible to conceptualize, the families whose kids survive “a bad day” can still be devastated for the rest of that entire families life. We have seen it over and over and it is time to take the steps to prevent it from happening.

The Truth is that nobody deserves that and part of the solution is beyond simple. NEVER LEAVE THE POOL IF KIDS ARE THERE… PERIOD!

Precious Guardians is writing this blog with the intention of bringing information to you that can make a big difference with having kids and a pool, spa or water feature. We also want to bring to light the fact that in Arizona if you have a pool, and kids under 6  there is a law about having a pool barrier. Even without a pool barrier you can help to prevent drownings, but there is never a replacement for a quality barrier while the water source is unattended by proper supervision.

 First, we would like to start with Family Pool Safety 101. That involves simple steps that we all to often forget about today, yet when these steps are practiced regularly they provide you with the safety that you need.

Arizona is such a transient state that on a regular basis we get new families
coming to our wonderful state who until they get here might not have ever
had a pool, needed a pool fence or pool barrier. It can seem like such a daunting task to follow the Arizona laws regarding pool fencing and young children, but as a homeowner with a pool, you expose yourself to many liabilities beyond just the liability of your own children. Visiting relatives, grandkids, nieces, nephews, neighbors, strangers entering your yard,
contractors, pool cleaning services, pest control and many other situations
arise when having the proper pool barrier can really stop any trouble that you could have when yo are a pool owner. These and many other situations that can occur when you are not at home can all pose  additional circumstances for you to consider that degrade whatever level of safety you that you think that you are providing.

“MY KIDS KNOW HOW TO SWIM” Will Not Stand Up

NOTE: Your greatest water safety assurance comes from adopting and practicing as many safety steps as possible. For our kids, adding an extra safety step by understanding responsibilities around the pool and spa can make all the difference in the their life and yours. You will never know which safety step will save a life until it does.

The Simple Pool Safety Steps That Save Lives Are:

• STAY CLOSE, BE ALERT AND WATCH CHILDREN AT ALL TIME.

“I only left them alone for a minute officer” is not something you want to have to say. Always watch your children and never leave them unattended. Keep children away from pool drains, pipes, filters and other openings. Have a phone close at all times and make sure everyone knows how to access the emergency numbers. If a child is missing, check the pool before anything else. Share safety instructions with family, friends and neighbors.

•  LEARN AND PRACTICE WATER SAFETY SKILLS.

Learn how to swim! 75% of the nations drownings are adults and 40% of adults do not know how to swim. Those facts alone mean that a lot of adults are not capable enough to help their own kids when they are involved in a water emergency. So again, learn how to swim! It’s fun and good exercise. Make sure that you know how to perform CPR on children and adults. Local classes are available everywhere.  Know and understand the basics of life saving so that you can assist in a pool emergency if needed.

• HAVE THE APPROPRIATE EQUIPMENT.

Install a pool barrier around the perimeter of the pool or spa. The barrier should be a minimum of 4 feet in height. You must use self closing and self-latching gate. You must ensure the pool or spa you use has a compliant drain cover. Install a door alarm from the house to the pool area.  Properly maintain all of your pool and spa covers. Have life saving equipment such as life rings or reaching poles available for use.
